Record Label: Witch Hunter Records.
Tree of Sores is a young band that thrives off the gloomiest aspects of metal.
Snapped up by Witch Hunter Records, the Leeds trio blends dark, ambient textures with soul-searching melodic passages inspired by the likes of: Neurosis, Eyehategod and the crust metal bleakness of Amebix.
An eerie echo indicates the start of an enduring ride; as the slow-building atmospheric ‘Intro’ flows directly into ‘God Theory’, a terrifying seven-minute journey through crushing riffs and plenty of pummelling, while Matt and Talia’s juxtaposing vocals are harmoniously disjointed.
The sense of impending doom is developed further on ‘Grave’ as tribal drums and guitar interplays are united by densely layered passages, while ‘From Within’ continues with the quiet to loud formula, all be it in half the time.
With a running time of just over 30 minutes, this self-titled release makes for an interesting, yet uneasy experience that leaves the listener feeling drained.
