Lords of Bastard – Cuddles [Bang Mountain]

Bastards need Cuddles: That’s the only viable message to take from the Lord’s latest release. As it happens, Cuddles isn’t the only thing this Edinburgh four-piece need: put down the knives, no seriously, put down the knives; wouldn’t you like a cuppa instead?

Unpredictability is what the Lords of Bastard do best: wild-yet-sane, abrasive-yet-melodic, and whereas their debut full-length tailed off towards the end – confirming that schizophrenic musical shifts can be detrimental to the listener, Cuddles keeps their evil, bone-crushing blend of stoner alive by keeping things relatively simple: bolt-out-the-blue piano freak-outs, plenty of “oohs” and just general, down-tuned madness.
